'For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.'
This lesson plan bundle contains three lesson plans covering the fifth act, and a conclusion and review of Romeo and Juliet.
These plans can be used on their own, but make an excellent accompaniment to our Education Umbrella Press edition of Romeo and Juliet, which includes the play, full analysis of each scene, character profiles, exam help, vocabulary flashcards, and more.
These lesson plans are part of a scheme of work that imagines 16 lessons spread over four weeks.
In act five the plague ('the infectious pestilence') plays a crucial role. We ask students to consider why Shakespeare avoids using the word 'plague'. We also look in detail at how Shakespeare uses language to create a vivid sense of penury in the character of the Apothecary. In 5.3, we look at the Prince's creaking authority, and ask which characters will be spared and which will be punished for their role in the tragedy.
These are just some of the objectives featured within this Lesson Plan Bundle.
