What is changing in GCSE (9-1) Psychology in 2017?

Teaching for the new GCSE (9-1) Psychology curriculum begins in September 2017.

Main changes:

  • Assessment through 100% exam
  • Research methods must make up 20% of the qualification
  • Maths skills make up 10% of the qualification (50% of the research method content)
  • 5 compulsory topics
    • Development
    • Memory
    • Psychological Problems
    • Social Influence
    • The Brain and Neuropsychology
  • 2 optional topics from a list of 5
    • Criminal Psychology
    • Language, Thought and Communication
    • Perception
    • Sleep and Dreaming
    • The Self
