    Year 5 Properties and changes of materials: Reversible and Irreversible Changes

    In this lesson, pupils learn about dissolving and mixing, the difference between reversible and irreversible changes and how they can be useful, particularly in cooking. This lesson uses material from the new KS2 science curriculum and may be precded by Properties and changes of materials: Grouping materials.

    Pupils will learn:

    • That some materials will dissolve in a liquid to form a solution.
    • That dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes.
    • How some changes result in the formation of new material and this kind of change is irreversible.
