The new primary science curriculum requires for schools to cover the unit 'Plants' from Year 1 to Year 3. In this lesson, pupils try growing cress heads under different conditions to find out exactly what plants need to stay healthy, an experiment which should ideally take place over two weeks. They also compare the basic needs of plants with the basic needs of humans. This lesson may be preceded by Plants: How do plants grow?.

    Pupils will learn:

    • To find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.
