Year 3 Plants: Plant reproduction

flowering plants.jpg

After first learning about plants in Year 1, the new primary science curriculum requires Year 3 pupils to learn about pollination and seed dispersal in flowering plants. This lesson introduces the anatomy of a flower and involves a role playing activity in which pupils learn about pollination as well as fertilisation and various methods of seed dispersal. This lesson may be preceded by Plants: Keeping plants healthy, which introduces the structure of flowering plants.

Pupils will learn:

  • What role flowers play in the life cycle of a flowering plant.
