Year 2 Living things and their habitats: Habitats and micro-habitats

    Jungle and city.jpg

In this lesson, pupils learn about different habitats and how animals and plants are well-adapted to live in them, becoming familiar with new animals and plants in the process. They also investigate micro-habitats in the school grounds and make conclusions about micro-habitats from what they have found. This lesson may be preceded by Living things and their habitats: Dead or alive? and followed by Living things and their habitats: Connected lives.

    Pupils will learn:

    • That most living things live in habitats to which they are suited.
    • How different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants and how they depend on each other.
    • To identify a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including micro-habitats.
