Year 6 Light: How light travels

    Light show

Following the new KS2 science curriculum, pupils are first introduced to light in Year 3, and return in Year 6 to establish how it travels in straight lines. In this lesson, pupils use their understanding of light to explain how objects can be seen and how shadows work. They may also make their own periscope.

    Pupils will learn:

    • That light travels in straight lines
    • How objects are seen
    • Why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them
