    Year 5 Forces: Building machines

One of the changes to the KS2 science curriculum is the addition of the subject 'mechanisms', into the Year 5 Forces unit. In this lesson, pupils learn about the functions of gears, pulleys and levers and use their creativity to design wacky inventions to complete simple tasks. This lesson may follow Forces: Falling and Forces: Resistance.

    Pupils will learn:

    • That mechanisms including gears, pulleys and levers allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
