Year 3 Forces and Magnets: Magnets

In accordance with the new KS2 science curriculum, pupils are first introduced to magnetism in Year 3. This lesson plan includes a number of activities in which students independently investigate the properties of magnets, including magnetic materials, strength of different magnets and the interaction between North and South poles. Also included are two worksheets in which pupils record their findings. This lesson may be preceded by Forces and Magnets: Contact and non-contact forces.

    Pupils will learn:

    • A magnetic material is a material that is attracted to magnets. All magnetic materials are metal but not all metals are magnetic.
