The new KS1-2 national curriculum puts emphasis on 'working scientifically'. This lesson is based entirely around a set of simple experiments in which pupils consider the properties of materials to determine the best material to make a tent with. This lesson may be preceded with Everyday materials: The stuff that things are made of.

    Pupils will learn:

    • To describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials.
    • How to compare and group a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their properties.
