    Year 4 Living things and their habitats: Classification

    Classification beetles

    Using material from the new KS2 science curriculum, this lesson develops pupils' understanding of how living things are categorised. Pupils use and make their own classification keys and learn some new terminology, in particular, the different types of vertebrates. This lesson may be followed by Living things and their habitats: Changing environments.

    Pupils will learn:

    • That living things can be grouped in a variety of ways;
    • How to use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things.
