Description

Anancie learns a lesson in common sense – the hard way! This is a traditional West African story, mainly told by Ashanti or Yoruba people.

Anancie is half man, half spider and is a combination of trickster and hero. He is usually quite a selfish character, so in the beginning of this story, it appears he has changed. Encouraging children to share their pearls of common-sense and collecting them in his drum, he listens to everyone’s point of view, but we soon learn that he is going to hide them and not share this wisdom.

Please note, the spelling is sometimes known as Anansi or Anancie.
